Larchmont's Brick House...

I really love my neighborhood. I live in Hancock Park and walking distance from Larchmont which is definitely a treat. Larchmont is one of those streets that you can walk down and almost instantly be reminded of why life is wonderful. The street is lined with mom and pop shops, coffee shops, a yoga studio, a spa, bakeries,a newsstand, convenient store, video store, etc... I often see proud pet owners and their pooches strutting down this street, people off to their yoga class with their mats strapped to their backs, or people with their laptops sitting in coffee shops for hours on end sipping coffee and working on who knows what. It never fails, every time I walk down this street, I feel alive, motivated, and health conscious.

After a restful sleep and wonderful dreams of what I would blog about today... I woke up to find that the water had been shut off in my building and I had a message on my phone asking if I could come in and interview today. The water wasn't a huge surprise considering the kitchen sink had been making gargling noises all weekend and was making my apartment smell like rotten eggs, but the interview... that was a surprise! I quickly made plans to go shower and get ready at my BFF's place across the street but then was told after I got everything ready, that they would hold the interview tomorrow instead. Phew... I didn't really feel like answering any questions today anyway considering I can't explain how the zit on my face appeared. For anyone who knows me, I don't get zits... that is not me bragging, that is me declaring my skin as extra dry and not able to produce enough oils to even create a zit. So, you understand my shock when this happens to me. Anyway, I decided to take a stroll down my favorite street to shake off the days interruptions and take a stab at being productive.

I packed up my laptop and my book on Ethics and decided I was going to be one of those people that I see sit at coffee shops for hours on their laptops. I never understood the appeal and today I was going to find out. I went to 'Bricks and Scones' which is a new coffee shop on Larchmont. Yes, yes... it is a clever play on words, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". It was clever because the building is brick, they serve homemade scones, and their sign has a pink little piggy on it drinking coffee. Solid marketing towards the big bad wolves like Starbucks and The Coffee Bean who are located just down the street. This little piggy is screaming, "Listen up you idiots! There is no blowing this house down!". The only thing better than this sign would be if they constantly played the Lionel Richie classic, "Brick House" all day out front. It's a family run business and super cute. There is an outdoor patio, an indoor lounge, and upstairs a "no talking" zone for those who need to study. That was me! I bought a bottomless cup of coffee and nuzzled in next to a window to hopefully catch some of the sun on my translucent skin.

So, ok... I get it. Sitting in a coffee shop all day doing work is better than being in your office or in your apartment with distractions such as television and other interruptions. People like me however, who find the two ants mating on the window sill more fascinating than anything else at the current moment, will not benefit from an environment like this. I came here with the intention of writing 4 or 5 papers to get caught up and I am instead absorbed in writing this blog post, and wondering what the deal is with the guy across from me. He borrowed the extra chair from my table to sit on and work off of his lap because all of the tables were taken but it is clear that he is struggling in doing so. Papers are falling off of his lap, he can't seem to balance the laptop, his book, and gather his other needs from his bag without teeter tottering all over the place. Why wouldn't he just ask to share the table? Is he intimidated by my good looks? Is he hesitant to disturb my obvious concentration? Or maybe he is looking at my new zit and totally repulsed. I have to do something about this...

Okay, all is good! I offered to share my workspace and he said he was managing just fine (lie). The woman in the corner just finished working for the day and she offered her table and chair to the guy across from me. Thank goodness! It is so uncomfortable to watch someone struggle and then decline assistance. It's like... just take the help!

Well, it is time for me to refill my coffee cup and actually do some homework. I will never complete my masters at the rate that I am going... Although I only have 5 classes left, the classes are self paced. I have the option of completing the courses as quickly as I like but guess who procrastinates every time? That would be me. Having a sense of urgency and a deadline always makes me produce the most quality work. Masters... what a stupid name for a type of degree. Like anyone is really a master of anything. The only master I ever knew of was whoever had control of Grayskull, who in turn, had the power to become Master of the Universe. Was I the only one who wanted He-Man and She-Ra to be lovers?

  2. Listen here sidestation. You and your little coffee pot need to get on another blog right meow. Lets go have a drink and write it in a ridiculous belligerent setting... You know you like the sound of that.

  3. There is a very small, yet very selfish, part of me that is very concerned. What if you get a job and stop writing this bloggolicious, blogabulous blog of yours?
