Forgive Me Father For I Have Sinned...

Image
Forgive me father for I have sinned, it's been 8 days since my last blog.... Ahhhh... the joy of being sick. For the past five days I have gone to work every day with a fever of 101, a sore throat, and a terrible cough. Granted, I didn't work full 8 hour days but I went in, kicked ass, and then came home and snuggled up on the couch wearing knee socks, sweatpants, sweatshirt, bathrobe, my Celtics knit hat and then covered myself with two blankets and a heating blanket. I know, sexy right? This has been the routine and given that I literally did not move from the couch unless it was to go to the bathroom, I have had plenty of time to think about some of the suggestions people have had for me to make a quick recovery. Go to the doctor - what a novel idea! Here's the deal kids. I grew up in a house with a mom who is a RN in the ER. Any illness, backache, complaint of pain was answered with "Oh you are fine! It'll go away just give it some time! You feel awful? ...

A Whale Of A Good Time!

Today I was amazed as I was reading about the woman who paddle boarded 40 miles (9 hours), by herself to raise $100,000 for Boarding for Breast Cancer and Keep a Breast Foundation on March 28th. All day I found myself watching news stories, reading articles and looking at pictures of this event because for 2 of the 9 hours, she was being followed by a Minke whale! I may have gotten to the story a little late, but I am so happy that I didn't miss it all together! Click here for the story. What did I find so fascinating about this? What isn't fascinating about this?! This woman used to be a professional surfer, she pushed her own physical limits, specifically asked to do it alone, and did it all for a friend who has been battling breast cancer for nearly two decades. She is an incredible inspiration. The second part of my amazement is the fact that this whale who has come to be known as Larry, came along and was playing with her! Larry was rolling on his side, blowing bu...

Do You Have My Back?

I would have loved to start this blog by saying I have the back of an 80 year old but that wouldn't be fair. My grandmother as you read yesterday, turned 87 and her back is way better than mine! I have four things working against me: 1. Homework, and lot's of it, requires I sit for extended periods of time. Sure, I get up and walk around every so often but it doesn't take too much time when I sit back down for me to feel my posture going from straight to hunched over. 2. At work, I am either sitting at a computer or carrying large boxes with a variety of weights up and down stairs all day. And yes, I am "lifting with my knees!" 3. I have never actually weighed my breasts before but I would think they are close to the weight of two cantaloupes! Are they great to have? Sure... but I would trade in a cup size or two for a guaranteed back pain free future in a heartbeat! By the way, even though I know that "breasts" is technically the right term, I still wou...

Age is Just a Number

Image
Today my grandmother, Desire Wuth, turned 87 years old. I can only hope that I will age as well as she has and grow up to be half the woman that she is. Age is something that I have been thinking about a lot lately as most of my friends and I are entering our 30's this year. I have watched some go through mild panic attacks about turning 30 and not being where they thought they would be by that age, and then go into a bout of depression for a short period of time after their birthday. To me, age is just a number. How old you are and what you have accomplished doesn't dictate how successful you are or define you. The only thing that matters with each passing day is your own happiness, self worth, having no regrets, and knowing that you are being true to yourself. There surely have been some times in my life where I have questioned my decisions, self worth, and been severely unhappy however with each passing year I have realized that by questioning these things, I have bee...

A BIG Loser

Today I caught the full length reflection of myself in the window of my new workplace and in my head, I had a mini meltdown. Mentally, I have always been pretty confident; physically, not so much. I don't know anyone who isn't insecure about something however, insecurity should be something you work on right? Well, after I emotionally ate a burger for lunch with the size 0 woman I work with and just now had some frozen yogurt, I realized that I have been losing my battle with physical insecurities in a BIG way. Because of this, I have decided that tomorrow is the day that I will actively be working on these insecurities and have this blog to keep me honest. Some may say, "Jacks, love the person that you are! You don't need to change a thing!" Now, my argument to this is, I do love the person that I am, I would just like to remove the fat from stomach. I don't want you to misunderstand me on something... to me, it's not about how much I weigh or wha...

I Feel Like My Life Is a Blooper

bloop·er (blpr) n. 1. Informal. A clumsy mistake, especially one made in public; a faux pas. As if the word "blooper" wasn't funny enough! You know when you see someone trip and fall and even though it looks like it really hurt, you can't help but laugh? How about when someone gives you a HUGE smile because they are really excited to see you and they have something really colorful stuck in their teeth? What about when you see someone take a big bite of something and it drops in their lap, or their shirt, or down their shirt? Or when you see someone laugh so suddenly their body couldn't handle the sudden jolt and a booger pops out? Or when someone has verbal diarrhea and says something they are thinking out loud accidentally, but really it wasn't a polite thing to say? What about when someone says one word constantly and you can't help but play the "count how many times they say it in our conversation" game because it's hilarious. How a...

The Gift of My Service

Today was my first day working in the world of gift giving. Your job is to give gifts you ask? Yes folks, it's true. I am assisting companies that specialize in luxury merchandising market their products by "gifting" them to celebrities. Click here for company information. Today was my first day so I didn't actually give away anything to anyone. Well, except my boss to whom I gave the gift of my service...with a smile. I am pretty sure considering my pretty sweet skills, that is the best gift in the world. Who needs a bag of expensive goodies when you can have a class act like me? A young woman whose face turns the color of a turnip at the slightest sign of sun or heat. A brilliant one who managed to get herself locked inside of the garage right after her colleague specifically came with her on the first trip to hold the door open. A girl who goes to the gym and hits the treadmill for two hours and then comes home and eats a cupcake. A girl who up until yest...

Easter Moves Me

Today I experienced the Agape International Spirit Center . As you all know by now, I am not a regular church goer but today, in honor of Jesus, I did my homework on today's meaning and went for the total experience. Agape was fantastic! There was a BRILLIANT sermon, a full choir, and a surprise performance by Shakakon! When I look at the name Shakakon, I think of the word shake; and shake I did! I felt the earth move under my feet! Literally... After a nice brunch at Kokomo with my good friend Mark, I stopped home to grab a movie that we wanted to watch and suddenly I felt dizzy and unstable. The doors to my closet were swinging, my year-round fake Christmas tree (decorating style I picked up from my mom) was swaying, and for just a second I thought I was drunk; a feeling that wouldn't normally be surprising to me except that I dedicated this day to being a good Christian. This earthquake was the biggest one I have ever felt! Was that God's way of telling me that ...

Are you there God? It's me, Wuth!

OMG... Oh, my god... why do we say that? It's always been part of my vocabulary but I am not sure why. Is it offensive? Hmph! Yesterday I told you all how I was going to take the next two days to gain a better understanding of the Easter Holiday. Sure, I could just look it up online but first, I wanted to think about church, the bible, and how I felt about it. Here is my disclaimer: My intent with this post is to show you how uneducated and stubborn I can be when it comes to my own understanding of the church, bible, and what our holidays actually stand for. I go to church on some holidays. Why you ask? For me, holidays are a time of togetherness that you can share with everyone - not just your family and friends. Somehow it just made sense to go to church and be with other people who were in equally as good a mood as I and sing some tunes! Well, if I can go to church on a few holidays and celebrate, why wouldn't I make every Sunday a holiday and celebrate God? I think I...

April Fool's!

I can't believe that it has been over ten years since I first witnessed the awesomeness of the film, "Slaughter High" . It is because of this movie, that I look forward to April 1st every year. This has to be the worst film ever made from the awful writing, poor editing, ridiculous score, continuity issues, horrendous acting, hilarious stunt moves, right down to the fact that new characters appear halfway through the movie that were never introduced before. My personal favorite is that according to this writer, April Fool's Day ends at noontime on April 2nd. Let's talk about some of the character names: Carol Manning, Skippy Pollack, Marty Rantzen, Carl Putney, Stella, Joe, Frank, Ted, Nancy, Susan, Shirley, Manny and Digby. These character names are in short, AWESOME. All of the actors are supposed to be in high school however, they all look over 30 which only adds to the awesomeness. Let me paint the picture for you... The "popular" kids in school...
