You Want Me To What??

Although I took a brief hiatus from writing my blog, I have been filling my time with a number of new experiences to blog about. Last week I encouraged facebook friends, twitter followers, and my blog readers to let me know what it is about life they would like me to blog about as I was struggling for a place to start. I have decided that I will start with a topic we all love to read about...the ups and downs, highs and lows, pride and humiliation of dating.

When it all comes down to it, no matter how self-sufficient a woman is, the majority of women like to be taken care of and wooed. Yes, wooed. Is wooed code word for celibacy until you drop the L word or the commitment card? No. Does it mean be given a WOO card for access to discounts in my almost hometown of Worcester, MA? No. It just means get to know the girl for cryin out loud and don't ask her on a date if you aren't really interested in dating in the first place. A little over a month ago I had three of my close girlfriends in town for a week and we literally had "a whale of a time". No really, we saw a whale... With two of them married and one engaged to be married this September, we weren't exactly on the manhunt if you know what I mean. After a rainy day walking around and seeing the sights, we thought it would be a great idea to take our ratty looking selves to a local boozey spot to get a little saucy and ride a bull in the middle of the afternoon before that nights shenanigans. We strolled on in and were immmediately catered to by the manager bringing us free mimosa's while we waited for our table. With my jeans, sneakers, no make-up, ugly shirt and nappy hair - I casually may have checked out one of the employees when he wasn't looking. Well to my dismay, he was looking and called me out on it by walking on over. After some healthy witty banter, our table was ready and this guy made the move and asked for my number.

He did all of the classics. Texted me the whole time I was there. Kept telling me I was beautiful when it was obvious I looked like a wet rat. Bought us a round of shots. Talked to my friends and made them feel special too. Made plans with me right away in a social setting with my friends. Ignored me when we did go out the next night and impressed my friends, therefore impressing me. When my friend asked me to come over that Wednesday night, he spoke for me and said I was busy and then whispered that he was taking me out. Bold, brave and a very sexy move. That night we shared a magical kiss goodbye and he said he would see me the next night for our date.

When I walked out my front door that Wednesday evening, he was standing on the passenger side of his car dressed super nice, holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers. He gave me a big hug, kissed my cheek and opened the door for me as I got in the car. We went to a comedy show, dinner and then he dropped me off and went home. WHEN DOES THIS HAPPEN? FLOWERS? NOT MAKING BIG MOVES OR HAVING EXPECTATIONS (if you know what I mean)? Sounds like the 50's. Guess what? I kind of dug it.

For the next few days we talked multiple times and as we made plans for him to come over on a Sunday, I was shocked to discover that this guy was indeed, a jackass. After a few days of him talking about himself incessantly without really getting to know me at all, I thought that maybe we just needed some alone time to chill out and chat. No date, no expectations, no reading into things. We discussed making lunch, maybe watching a movie... and when I asked him if there was anything else he would like to do he said, "I want you to (insert disgusting and humiliating sexual favor that I cannot even type without feeling my whole body flush in embarrassment and humiliation)". That was the end of my brief romance.

The point here is ladies - there may be those guys out there that know how to woo and make your knees feel kind of weak but as vulnerable as we let ourselves be at times, there is always a possibility that you may have had woo goggles on and didn't see the tell tale signs. If he is one smooth cool cat when you first meet him and you get all stupid and excited - you better put on a onesie and zip that up to the top and put a lock on it. There are some real charmers out there... just don't let them fool you. The one who would never make a fool of you is standing by.

  1. Oh, Jackie!
So glad you are able to look back on t his in such a positive manner.
I think I would want to stalk him down and do something nasty.
But, that just wouldn't solve anything, just put me lower than him.
I am NOT your Mom, but I feel proud of you.
    I know she is too.
Peace and Love to you Dear Heart,
    Sherryanne (Mrs. Snipes)
